In Robert Burns' afterlife he has been claimed by every political tradition under the sun. Yet Burns' work and actions when placed in context reveal him to be an iconic radical writer from the beginning of his writing life to the end.

The two biggest events that took place during Burns' life were the American and French Revolutions both of which influenced Burns greatly. He actually sent three Carronades to the French Revolutionary Government putting his livelihood at risk.

Rythmer Rab dramatises Burns as he was- a charismatic, complex peasant poet who used his genius to shine a light on those in power while writing profoundly about many subjects. The drama makes connections with the modern day and is Brechtian in form.
